The Battle for Public Opinion

For the past five years, I have been seeing technology accommodate to workplace, social, and personal lives. With the pandemic arriving, we still needed someway to communicate with others, for example, using Twitter. Twitter has allowed people to post their personal opinions, as well as provide some information about what is going on around the world. During the 2020 civil rights movement and protest, I had gotten basic/non-descriptive information on Twitter, although that platform was were I first herd about this happening. When these events were happening, I had noticed a great difference in how many people started to participate on Twitter, as well as some people complaining about how Twitter had erased their post, since they were considered inaccurate or inappropriate. Even though lots of people had participated in these events in-person, I think that social media had allowed some to participate as well (just in their home). I had expected social media to be used more since some were still worried about getting Covid-19, as well as not wanting to risk getting injured or arrested.

For documenting history, we are allowed to hear about news, just as soon as it happens. For example, with the Queen passing away, we found out as soon as it had happened. Even back in the 80's it took sometime for some news to come around, since they did not have the same technology as we do now. Lots of more people are about to travel the world and document what they see and hear, and we are able to share our opinions as well. People can make one post and thousands of people can see it in one night and either agree or disagree. However, since we can do this, we are able to communicate our thoughts with people from all around the world. Since so many people can document history, lots of people can respond to it, which allows us to build communication skills and further our knowledge. We can also get more information about history today and past. We could have thought that one person had said "this" twenty years ago, however (thanks to documenting history), we find out that someone else had actually said "this."

Since we are able to ask questions and get millions of opinions, celebrities and big corporations are able to ask the people what they want, and they would give it to them. For example, FaceTime (a few years ago) only had allowed you to talk to one person at a time. However, since so many people were asking for this to change, Apple had decided to listen to the people. Getting a large group on opinions allows new ideas to come along, which will build up businesses and make more money. This can also inspire other companies to do the same. In the link that I had provided, they had also described how people would make slogans for companies, which would make the customer feel more connected to that establishment. When I had went on TikTok, I had saw a video posted about how they did not like the format of the app, I had also agreed and hope that TikTok will listen to the people (since there was thousands of likes and comments agreeing as well). I can see technology and social media still continuing with playing a part with emotions and news reports for years to come, especially since technology has grown with our lifestyle.
